Art Commissioning Contracts
There are many facets to a successful art commission, a critical component is the commissioning contract.
We have developed a simple yet comprehensive FREE contract available to all projects posted through our hub. In addition to our Commissioning contracts, we have set a clear code of conduct policy that provides further transparency between all parties in order to mitigate the risk of issues arising including a dispute resolution policy.
Who is the contract useful to?
Any party looking to commission works when hiring an artist/maker should have a contract in place signed by all parties. Not only will this reduce project scope change but it will increase the chance of recruiting the perfect candidates as artists want clarity and clear communications.
What does the contract cover?
- Commission specification details including the final deliverable
- Breakdown of costs
- Terms including both artists and commissioners responsibilities
- Timelines
- Change of scope process
- General contract terms covering IP & rights
You are free to fully customise our contracts and will be given the opportunity to review the 1st draft.
What’s the process?
When you post a brief on Commissionit, you will receive offers. When you are happy to proceed with an offer and you have agreed to proceed you will be sent an invoice along with a request for either a deposit or the full payment.
As soon as we receive the payment, you will be sent a copy of your contract for review. Once approved, the artist/maker will receive their version.
As soon as both parties have signed and agree to the contract the fun starts and the project gets underway.
The contract will always be at hand between both parties to refer to.
