Whilst living in Brazil, in the remote south west of Matto Grosso do sul, I walked nearly every day. This daily routine took me passed 5 families of Owls, or Coruja’s as they are called in Portuguese. Family number 1, who lived in a storm drain, were my particular favourites. I watched them raise a chick and every day I greeted them with ‘bom dia’ and ‘tudo bem.’ They tolerated my daily intrusion and allowed me to walk close by them almost every day for six months. They became a symbol of hope and love. I loved the country Brazil, particularly my little remote corner and its incredible people. I also loved my Coruja’s and they remain in my thoughts and part of me. Coruja the Owl is part of my ‘friends’ series of paintings. Coruja the Owl is sold mounted. Mount size 8 x 10 inches. He is painted on 140lb watercolour paper in watercolours.
