A painting about childhood and a kind of nostalgia; there was a time when the best fun could be had from some scrap wood, a box from the butchers and four wheels from a discarded pram. This painting captures the essence of that – a gang of boys hurtling without a care down walkways through a housing estate. The figures themselves are softly blurred, suggesting speed, and also monochrome, alluding to time past. The surface of the canvas itself is scratched, scraped and in parts thickly overpainted like a piece of grafitti. The whole is a time capsule, like an object suspended in aspic.
