This large still life oil painting is very homely and captures light and mood magnificently. The painting is imbued with a warm “chiaroscuro” light and the subject matter includes a bread crock, apples in a pottery bowl, bread on a chopping board on a rustic table. Oil paints on canvas panel. Approximate canvas dimensions 28 x 30″ and frame size 34.5 x 36.5″. Hand made bespoke frame with a distressed subtle gold finish with a cream coloured slip. I have been a professional still life painter for over 20 years. I am recognised as an authority on the genre and have collected a vast amount of subject matter over this period. Though my style has developed, a fundamental reference throughout my work to the importance of light and mood will always be adhered to. I have been inspired by the old masters however an important part of my approach is to produce work which is contemporary. Consequently my technique, particularly in regard to pigment choice is very dependent on the most cutting edge spectral pigments which were not available to artists historically, as well as the use of long established materials. This fusion in technique creates a contemporary still life painting which has subtle natural colours and is imbued with luminosity.
