Here, the lone figure of a woman with her back to the viewer leaves whatever is behind her without looking back. However, the spectator must wonder if sheƒ??s actually moving determinedly toward something rather than away from something else. Whenever there is an ending, there is always a beginning. Her movement and the sidelong wind are the only clues to her care free emotional state.¶ÿ The design of this piece conveys an airy quality through the simplicity of the etched line, the spare background, and the transparent coloring of both dress and hair. The dress is a hand-tinted tissue paper which is infused into the print during the printing process. This process is known as chine colle and was often done by Rembrandt to add a touch of colour to his etchings. Famously used by such masters as Albrecht DǬrer and Rembrandt, the traditional printmaking technique of etching has remained unchanged since the early 16th century.¶ÿ A very limited edition of 20 prints was produced, each work is hand-numbered and signed by the artist.
